Imagine the Garden of Eden, so full of beauty and life. Imagine living in a place where beauty and peace are constant.
That was God’s intention, a beautiful place and a peaceful life, constantly. As we all know that privilege was lost shortly after it began. But what if we have the opportunity to live in our own gardens? What if our homes, our marriages, our children, what if they are all pieces of our very own garden? As if God has allowed us each a chance to taste the garden of Eden through the lives He has given us…
I like to see my home as my garden. I see it as a God given garden that needs to be carefully and gracefully handled. My husband, my children, my home, my identity, all individual flowers in one big beautiful garden. When I look at it this way I have a a new zeal and joy that makes me eager to see my garden thrive. Yes thrive, I think I’ll try that.
Thrive- to prosper, flourish
I want to flourish in my home & particularly as I mother my sons. I imagine them as these tiny little seeds & all that I have to give them is the soil. The love & nourishment is like water. The correction & teaching is like sunlight. The time I spend with them will be what helps them thrive.
We live in a world where black men are at risk. I want to make sure they are strong. We live in a world where a young man’s identity can be crushed. I want to make sure they are brave. In this world full of withering thorn filled bushes, I want these sons of mine to be rich & radiant greenery.
I want to water and pour in to every piece of my garden. So in the area sectioned off for motherhood, I will spend a little extra time & intentionality. I will love and encourage my children so that they may thrive. I will give God all the glory and remain in His presence so that this may all be possible.
Just as any beautiful garden, this will take work, but it will be worth it. Seeing the beauty of my garden flourish as I press into God’s grace and live under His mercy will make it all worth it. This is motherhood for me.
